VISA APPLICATION - MEDICAL PLAN START DATE

The Spanish visa authorities prefer to see a medical insurance policy that is already active on the day of your appointment, or at least set up to start within a few weeks of your appointment.

This means we can apply for your policy up to 3 months before the appointment date, to start on the appointment date.

Some customers will choose to SUBMIT an application for a policy a week before the visa appointment date, to start it three months after the visa appointment.

Many customers do this to tie in with their travel plans and will do so because they are told by an immigration lawyer that this is ok.

Unfortunately, in our experience, we see a regular number of these requests rejected by the visa authority.

We will of course be happy to provide you with the start date you require, and this email is offered up as a warning that some customers who date a policy 3 months after the appointment do get approval, but a growing number do not.

Why the policy start date matters:

  • Consulate Rejections: Many applicants choose a policy start date 2 or 3 months after their visa appointment. The consulate often rejects these post-dated policies. Those that have an active policy on the same date of the appointment or within a few weeks of the appointment do not seem to have any problem with approval.

  • Administrative Delays: When a policy is rejected, clients will return to us with a request to bring the start date forward.

  • System Resets: Changing an issued policy date is a highly time-consuming process. The insurer must manually purge your original medical plan from their system and restart your entire application from scratch.
