The Spanish public healthcare system does not provide free dental treatment.

Adults can attend public health for EMERGENCY DENTAL, and there is a basic level of dentistry available to under-15s. For adults in Spain, you will pay for all routine dentistry.

Once you have your Spanish dental insurance, you will be provided with a treatment list detailing what treatments are available to you under the scheme. Some will be included with no cost and more complex treatments will have a fixed price shown.

You can use a web search to find a dentist who is contracted in the scheme, and there may be several within your local area where you can attend. It is common practice in Spain to attend a check-up and obtain a schedule of treatment and a price. Most people will obtain a second opinion and price from another dentist in the policy network.

DENTAL TREATMENTS: TAKE POLICY FOR 1 YEAR ONLY

Our suggestion is that you take the Spanish dental insurance for 12 months only and during that time have all your checks done and seek treatment. Before the last month of the policy have one final check-up, then give the obligatory 1-month notice to avoid an automated renewal.

Hopefully, your teeth will be good to leave alone for another two or three years before coming back and setting up the policy for another year.
